When it comes to hiring a trusted professional to clean your residential or commercial properties in Minnesota, not all are created equal. Most of us know that this should be done, but look to coupons, commercials or other “deals” to hire a professional. Price seems to be the biggest factor in deciding who we chose to clean our carpets.
In truth carpet is one of the most expensive purchases that home owner or business makes. The average cost to carpet a 1200 square foot home is between $2000 and $4000. The average amount of time carpet is in our homes before we replace it is 10 – 20 years. Knowing this, it is easy to see that by taking care of our investment we are in the long run already saving money.
So, how does this relate to the cost of our carpet cleaner? Really it doesn’t. However, in order to lift soil out of your carpet most companies use the four fundamentals known as TACT (temperature, agitation, chemical, time). Most commonly we see companies using hot water and chemicals to clean our carpets. Agitation is created by the machine and the motion of it moving back and forth over the rug. The forth one is time and this is where some companies may not meet the necessary standards. The level of cleanliness achieved rests in part on time. The cleaning solutions need time to breakdown dirt and bring it to the surface of the carpet where it can be lifted away. Without this proper time, the soil remains stuck to the carpet. Sticky soil can lead to traffic areas that lay down and look matted.
Considering this, did your last “coupon deal” just run in clean and run out, or did they give the proper time to ensure that your carpets are the clean you were hoping to gain by calling them. The 30 minute three rooms done sort of deal may leave you with grungy, sticky, carpet that will need replacing sooner than later. If your cleaner took the time than you got a deal, your carpet will last longer, smell fresher, and look amazing for years to come.
